Hellooooooooooooo...

Is anyone still out there? Are ya'll sick of staring at the French flag? We'll be back in action soon. Maybe even within the day. We don't even have a proper excuse for our two-month absence. Not that we need one of course.

Until we do a proper post, here's a quick tribute to the current state of the Cleveland Indians:

I suspect that Indian's games would be much more entertaining if everyone had to play with a cup of beer in one hand.

Update: oh, and what the hell is up with the Chicago Cubs? I think I owe someone some cake!!

Important question update:

Dear blog friends,

What would you say to a Queen laser light show at your local planetarium? Yay or nay?
And yes, I mean this Queen...

I ask myself "what the hell is up with the Chicago Cubs?" on a regular (ie, daily, hourly, minutely, secondly) basis. Let me eat cake! Woo!

wow. i'm impressed at how quickly you posted after a two month absence. It's almost as if you were lurking in the internet tubes, like some sort of TRON spinoff.

Indeed. I nearly wrote you an email yesterday to say that I was sick of staring at the French flag. Just say no to Queen, by the way. Also: I've just learned that the warmup band for Wilco in London in September is Blitzen Trapper. Yay!

One post after 2 months and you got 4 comments in 4 hours. That's some followers.

Rangers looking good this year.

Okay, I see that was already mentioned. And speaking of tron, you've seen this, right?
Jeff Bridges.

yeh yeh. texas is all fine and good. I still don't think that they will overtake anaheim. oh no.

But you've failed to address the more important question at hand.

To queen or not to queen?

Alex said...

I was gonna say yay on queen if under 15 euro nay if over.
But then I found the "trailer" and I'm not so sure.

alex - way to sit on the fence and not make a real decision about queen at the plane-arium. i applaud your efforts.

douglas - i am now well-pissed that wilco does not appear to be playing in berlin.

harumph.

Did I mention that I saw them in the baseball park on Coney Island in July? And did I mention that the warm-up act was Yo La Tengo? It's been a pretty musictastic summer already... I also saw the Feelies (the Feelies! I didn't know they were even still alive!) for free the day I arrived in Chicago. I just sort of stumbled onto them. Not literally, though.

And seriously: the answer to the Queen question is NOT EVEN IF IT'S LESS THAN FIFTEEN EURO! NOT EVEN IF IT'S FREE! NOT EVEN IF THEY PAY YOU MORE OR LESS THAN FIFTEEN EURO!

what is wrong with you people?

queen-lasers-plane-arium

it's irony distilled

it's the absolute definition of fabulousness

sure it's arse-rock but in such a setting how can it be anything short of genius

though it is interesting that the topic of queen has reduced dr. dugdug, published author, to argument via caps lock and excessive punctuation

I think it would take more than the standard chemicals to make it worth it. You can only pay so much for irony. And the trailer was not convincing. And usually they put the best parts in the trailer.

That being said, you guys should go and then blog about it.

seriously douglas - i didn't know that your animosity towards queen ran so deep. And i'm the stool-half who was completely not convinced that the queen-laser-irony-fest was at all a good idea.

on a related topic, are there any bands that you would generally not like, but would listen to in the context of plane-arium/laser show? Pink floyd? Rush?

Well, there you have it. It's possible that having to walk past the enormous statue that advertises "We Will Rock You" on a semi-regular basis--and my general antipathy towards West End musicals in which a half-ass story is fitted around a bunch of songs by a particular group--set me over the top on this one. And all of the fanfare last year when Brian May handed in his astronomy thesis couldn't have helped. I'd seriously like to know whether 30-years-old research in the field of astronomy is of any relevance to the field in 2009. I would probably not go to Pink Floyd. I'd probably consider Rush if it cost a fiver--primarily because I think it's hilarious when Geddy Lee yells "Salesman!" in "Spirit of the Radio"; I would pay more if Rush were doing a "Great White North" laser light show with Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas. I would go see a planetarium laser light show involving Starship. But I wouldn't pay more than about twenty United States Dollars.

i hate rush more than i need to. but i can't stop myself.

OF COURSE YOU GO TO QUEEN! And you strain your neck during bohemian rhapsody. screw irony. you go to queen.

jack "php" the dripper said...

are punks allowed in the queens-arium ?

and beers ?

you should consider that, before entering...

maybe it is another anti-darwinism, hidden one...

take care

all this prog-rock crap is for the birds. i think i'd rather see a wiggles laser-light show.

The issue isn't whether you like Queen or whether you like irony. The question you have to ask yourself is, do i want to be rocked?
