This is relevant to at least one of our readers...

congratulations to the Chicago Cubs for winning the NL Central over the weekend!

Cue inevitable collapse and another off-season spent nurturing hope and expectations.

It's almost like being English.

I only just got home from Chicago! I made it down to Wrigley for the 5th inning of the clincher, but the only scalper with tickets wanted a hundred bucks for standing-room seats so I went to a bar across the street and high-fived everybody in sight when Edmonds caught the final pop-up. Then I sunned myself in peace and contentment in the left field bleachers on Sunday and watched our Triple-A September call-ups clobber the Cards again. Anyone who's been saying "Go you Brewers" all season (or half of it) should watch her mouth when it comes to collapse-talk. We actually believe this season (I know, I know...). And, in case you haven't heard the rumor mill, there's talk that C.C. might just end up in Cubbie pinstripes next season, in which case all of our differences will be settled.

if cc joins the cubs then i shall definitely change my tune

and as there is no team going to make the playoffs that i actually care about why don't we start with the go you cubs right here and now

fickle, yes, but meh that's how it goes

Eddie Vedder has now written a song for the Cubs, in addition to our fan-favorite Go Cubs Go. Jump on the bandwagon, Kate; it's been a long and miserable hundred years...just warning you...

I got up to around 40 seconds. I realized that I could spend the rest of the time, and not much money, going downstairs to the shop and buying myself a beer.

Could the REAL Kate and/or the REAL Chops please tell me what the bet was, who won, etc., on the Cubs post?

wow- i kept fowarding to see if someone would at least have the decency to fall over or throw up but no, just lame

i can definitively state they are not the real kateandthechops

the stools- accept no subsitutes

and dougie- we had both agreed that within an hour you would rise to the bait - but no, you let us down- no one won anything but a big bunch of disappointment

and i fall back on my default position of go you brewers- he may not have hit the homer for the win but his pitching still got the job done

The thing is, without Sabathia, they aren't a team. As evidenced by tonight's score. He's going to have to pitch every last inning of the playoffs if they want anything. I was completely impressed by his performance in the last game of the season, and wish he had hit that homerun, just to make it clear what a badass he is. Allow me to repeat, however, that I didn't respond within an hour because I WAS IN CHICAGO, WATCHING IT HAPPEN! I did respond within an hour of arriving home from Chicago, if that's any kind of consolation. Just don't question my dedication to/support of/defense of my entire lifetime's futile support of my heartbreaking local baseball club. I somehow came home with two hats and two shirts. One of each of which I'll be pulling on momentarily for the start of game one. The End. Longest. Comment. Ever.
